Ipsita Roy Chakraverti

A devoted practioner of Wicca, Ipsita Roy Chakraverti takes pride in the title of 'witch'. She was born in Calcutta, spent her teens in Delhi, and stumbled upon the occult and witchcraft in Montreal, Canada. She returned to India and married, and continues to practice witchcraft. Her autobiography, Beloved Witch was published by Penguin India in 1999. She contested the Hoogly seat for Parliament in 1998, on the Congress party ticket, but was unsuccessful. Her campaign against witch hunts was one of her main election planks.
