Indian movie on lesbians to return to theatres in Bombay NEW DELHI, Feb 23 (AFP) - An Indian movie that enraged Hindu zealots because of its lesbian content will again be screened in theatres in Bombay from Friday, it was announced Tuesday. Narayan Rane, chief minister of the western state of Maharashtra, said theatres showing "Fire" would get police protection if necessary. The widely-acclaimed movie was taken off theatres in New Delhi and Bombay after it sparked violent attacks on cinemas in December from Hindu fanatics. The violence in turn led to counter-protests. Indian authorities later sent the movie for a review to the government-appointed censor board, which this month cleared it for public viewing without any cuts. The attacks on theatres were blamed on the Hindu militant Shiv Sena party that rules Bombay, capital of Maharashtra state. Bombay is also the country's movie capital. "We will not allow recurrence of earlier incidents," the Press Trust of India quoted chief minister Rane as saying. He said authorities would ensure "trouble-free screening" of the movie. "Fire" recounts an affair between two married sisters-in-law.
